Hi Huckle,
the first thing is network. Get out to the local boxing events, start talking to people and get some resources. See who you should talk to and maybe even see if you can volunteer your time.

Like the admin said you just have to go to as many events as you can and try to learn as much as you can and you will be able to start to pick up everything and then you may meet some contacts that will help get you in.

Amatuer local boxing. Like USA boxing etc.
I have a friend that is a ref in Arizona & New mexico & that is advice I have heard him give as well.

So the best way to become a judge is to go to amatuer boxing events in your local area? Learn as much as you can from seeing the fights over and over again. What a job to have. Somebody will love you and somebody will be mad at you.

I've been a volleyball official and there will always be people who love and hate you for your calls. I can't take it.

Being a volleyball official must be a fun job. I love to play volleyball but I haven't done it recently. Have you heard any BOO's?

At a local fight try to talk to the judges and ask how they became judges.

If you really love boxing and are serious about judging than local amatuer events are the way to go! I have been involved now for many years and it is great. Most amt. groups are always looking for help with all aspects of amt bouts. Usually you"ll start at ringside with a regular ref and practice scoring with that ref until you get the hang of it .
This is a great way to work with and support our youngsters who are our future olympians and pros.I can't say enough about how much fun the amt. ranks are......good luck and let us know how you do
