IS THE HEAVYWEIGHT DIVISION READY TO HEAT UP ?

It may be soon that the boring heavyweight division will produce some fights that may actually be of interest to the fans. The boxing public is growing tired of contests like Maskaev-Othello, Klitschko-Austin and Ibragimov-Mora that were thrust upon the public as battles to supposedly determine who the best heavyweights in the world are today. Please...

Coming up in the near future should be the following battles ;

Nickolay Valuev-Ruslan Chagaev for the WBA heavyweight title.

Shannon Briggs-Sultan Ibragimov for the WBO heavyweight title.

Hopefully Wladimir Klitschko-Lamon Brewster II for the IBF heavyweight title.

Oleg Maskaev against either the deserving Sam Peter or former champion Vitali Klitschko for the WBC heavyweight title.

Well that is a start. Hopefully within the next six months we will have four men who claim a piece of the heavyweight crown and are willing to meet one another to determine who is the " undisputed " heavyweight champion of the world.

Another bout of interest that is being talked about is a match between former WBO titleholder Sergei Liakhovich and the fading but still capable James Toney. If it does come off the winner will be in a good position to challenge for one of the titles.

Where does this leave Evander Holyfield and another former champion on the outside looking in named Hassim Rahman ? Time will tell but by the end of 2007 the picture in the heavyweight division should become much clearer.

You type some long posts that take too long to read bro.
I guess the average boxing fan isn't very scholarly.

As for the heavyweight division there are a few things happening this year which could possibly lead to the division becoming interesting again. Depends on what happens after these fights really. If they just keep fighting unworthy challengers then the HW division is never going to be what it once was. But I think if just two of the champions would fight each other it would create some much needed energy in the heavyweight division.

What if both Klitcko's have belts? They're not going to fight each other and if they do it will be a horrible fight. That could be bad for the division.

The heavies suck
And thank god for the small guys that don't make a lot of money.
I can't believe I just said that.
That said the title holders don't want to become unified Champions.
They just want to hold the belt for as long as possible

We the fans can fix the problem but just like every thing else we don't stick together and this BS is what we get. if we stopped paying to see these BS fights, The fighters and the promoters would make less money and that will force them to fight at least 3 times a year and against good opponents but until We the fans do something about it, this is what we are stuck with. I no longer pay for PPV just for my self to watch a fight I wait 7 days and watch it for free.
And the only way ill pay for ppv is if I have a few people over and we all chip in.
And I hate to say it but today I have very little interest in any of the “big names” in the heavy weight division.
I would much rather watch the broke and hungry up and coming fighters.
BTW I WAS a HW fan since as long as I can remember. And now WHO is the champion and when is he fighting? Don’t care ……………….. ohhh maybe once this year if he thinks he will win.

When someone just posts an extremely long starter thred and never once replies to anyone's comment on their thread it is kind of pointless imo. Not scholorly? Trust me I'm good to go in that department buddy.

It looks like it's going to be Maskaev-Vitali with the winner to meet Sam Peter. I would have picked Vitali to win before but now with the injuries and inactivity ? I heard that Maskaev knocked Vitali cold in the amateurs. I'm not sure if it's true though.

Oh ok I see. His post about an actual boxing topic was pointless but you informing him that it was too much for you to read was very helpful. Good thing the community has posters like you around or where would we all be?

Not scholorly? Trust me I'm good to go in that department buddy.
I'll take your word for it.

I don't even remember the last time I sat down and watched a hvy weight fight. I was a big fan when the Bowe and Evander had wars. Tyson was KOing every1. Even when old George was on his comeback. Until they get some better fights and are willing to fight, GIVE ME THE SMALL GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, we actually agree on this one. I will watch WLAD if it is free and that is about it. I do not like how there's 60 heavyweight champs and they win/lose belts over and over and over again. I am ready for some badasses to come through and rip the division to pieces and hold the belt for a few years with the competition constantly trying to beat this man. The little guys may not get knockouts all the time but the freakin fight each other rather than leaning and hugging each other. I do like Wlad and think Sam Peter is improving but come on...
