It's about time. Taylor most likely dumping Steward!

was reported by Tim Smith in his NY Daily News column that there is a strong possibility that WBC/WBO middleweight champion Jermain Taylor will dump trainer Emanuel Steward.

Taylor's marriage with Steward began with the June 06 clash with Winky Wright, which saw him fight Wright to a draw. Following the bout with Wright, Taylor had two more bouts under the wing of Steward, against Kassim Ouma and last Saturday against Cory Spinks, both resulting in unimpressive decision wins.

Steward's contract with Taylor is now up and there are many on the inside who feel that Taylor will not retain his services.

Steward was very vocal during and after Taylor's bout with Spinks, regarding the selection of Spinks as the opponent. It was said by Steward that he never wanted Taylor to be in that fight because Spinks makes fighters look bad. He would have much rather had Taylor fight Edison Miranda, who was knocked out on the undercard by Kelly Pavlik.

Those close to the situation told Smith that it was shocking to hear Steward being critical of Taylor's opponent, when he was the one who picked Spinks. A claim that Steward denies.

"You must be kidding me. No way. I would have never, never, ever put him in against Cory Spinks. Tommy Hearns, Ray Leonard and even Ray Robinson wouldn't have looked good against Spinks," Steward said.

According to Smith, a source with knowledge of the situation told him that Steward, Ozell Nelson, Taylor's adviser, and Al Haymon, Taylor's manager, had three names on a list for last weekend's bout - Miranda, Pavlik and Spinks, to replace the original opponent, Sergio Mora, pulled out after a dispute over the fight being held in Memphis. It was said that Haymon asked Nelson and Steward to pick the best opponent for Taylor, and both men selected Spinks.

I really think Steward has held Taylor back and isn't right for him. I hope Jermain "Bad Impressions" Taylor will step it up to where he should be.

mannys to damn good for this chump, he should go coach with roache. lol
pat burns is the one taylro needs, taylor needs encouragement, not someone yelling at him that soudns like a retard, im sorry i cant stand manny's voice. I heard this as well. His contract is up and he needs to get away from steward, he ruined prince naseem as well, you dont try to teach fighters how to box. Let them keep fighting.
I bet Steward talks to Jermain in camp just like he does us, the viewers, on HBO. Like we are retards.
manny's getting to old to train. he has had his glory days, i hate listening to him on hbo commentary, i dislike lennox lewis but i would much rather have him on there than steward. the way lewis commentates, actually makes me like him much better as a person. Hell it would be a dream of mine for rj to come back and announce with them, i liked him the best.
seriouslt though, roache trains great offence, he's easily the best in the game. taylor NEEDS and i repeat NEEDS to work on his offence!!
Yep Roach would be perfect for Taylor.

I Loved RJJ as a commentator. They should offer him big bucks when he finally retires.
taylor is a guy who needs no trainer. Let him do his own thing like big george would say. Taylor's offense is fine. The only thing holding him back is someone in the back of his head ( steward )telling him to box. and them steward in the ring tells him to forget about everything we did in training and fight the guy. You are supposed to stick to your game plan and even though taylor should of listened to steward, you cant conufse a fighter.
My favorite trainer is Roger Mayweather LMAO. No racism intended but "sit that left on that ***** head den word dat ***** body Floyd!" From the Judah fight.

rog is what id call a good guy to have in the gym, he's good on pads etc but he couldn't come up with a game plan and he certinly isnt a good second.

floyd snr is 10 times the trainer rog is, as much as i dont like the guy i give credit where its dew because he gets results with and against the best.

I agree.... What makes me laugh is when Roger calls himself the best trainer in the world but only trains one guy. Go work with some other guys before you call yourself that. I bet most guys would have a hard time figuring out what the hell he is saying to them.
rog mayweather is only a good trainer with floyd, probabley no one else. Floyd sr is probabley the best trainer out their, even though i dont really see how, but he knows his stuff. Like i said, taylor needs someone in his corner that grew up watchign him fight, not some NAME trainer, those down turn fighters into champions. Your either born with the ability to be one or your not, a trainer is just there to keep you focused or in taylors case, destroy everything you have learned and tried to get you to do something else.
I was kidding about Roger being my favorite guys. "LMAO"

Senior is certainly better than him and is among the best in the business.
