Can Joe Calzaghe compete with the compittion out there today. Lets admitt he struggled against Sakio Bika who is not exactly a great fighter and not in the league as J Taylor and Bernard Hopkins. I have seen several of Joes fights and to be honest am not that impressed. Yes hes undefeated and is doing a great job for the country. He is the longest reighning champion and Destroyed Jeff Lacy but now its time for some big names. I think Joe will ahve no problems against peter manfredo at all. He should stop him in 8 rounds but Jermain Taylor and even Bernard Hopkins have what it takes to beat Joe. Hopefully Joe has anouther great year and dont get me wrong i am 100 % behind but just have a feeling about the new year. What are your thoughts on the topic ???

Probably will stay undefeated & fight maybe 3 or 4 times in the next 3 years. Probably have 2 pullouts of a fight in that time as well.

Will fight the weakest contenders the WBO will let him fight & call it a career.

easily the best fighter in the world just now joe want's 3 more fights, his fight against manfreido for more u.s tv coverage and then 2 fights stateside, ive heard joe wants taylor bad, but other names being mensioned are, glen johnson, roy jones, b-hop, antonio tarver and mikkel kessler. i dont see ant these guy's beating joe so he should retire in 18 months with his 0 intact and his legacy cemented. modern day great.

I agree completely with what you said Tyson. It really all depends on who he decides to step up to the plate against. The guys you mentioned would give him trouble, so hopefully he doesnt continue fighting the likes of manfredeo, and call it a career, because then we'd never know just how good he really was.

captain, who stateside at 168 would you say in the last year has done more than manfreido, his wins over the ranked spina and pemberton were infatic and i read somwhere he is the most improved fighter of the last 12 months, not a b-hop or a taylor kinda name but the but he is a top u.s fighrter and it will be primetime viewing.

Jermain Taylor is younger, fresher and has what it takes to beat Calzaghe?

TOMMY GUN
i would pick taylor to beat manfreido but taylor is still fighting down at 160 where joe has no chance to get down to. taylor is a bull at 160 and it wont be long untill his body forces him to move to 168 thats when he'll get owned, look out nov 07 for this fight or feb 08. i think taylor and winky will go again before that and if taylor stays off the damn rope's he should beat the smaller wright.

I would realy like to see Joe do well this year but to do so he has to fight bigger names. Hes already done the country proud but he hasnt got the world wide respect yet. Cant wait untill he fights in the states.

Calzaghe is awsome, everyone state side seems to forget that calzaghe originaly won this belt from one of the best super middle of all time 'criss eubank' he destroyed him too ! i think he must fight Kessler next ! kessler to me looks like his only threat in this division !!

While I think he is a good fighter, hes had 2 fights at that weight. He was a career 154-160lb fighter. The two fighters he faced:
Scott Pemberton- Just not the same since getting rocked by Lacy.
Spina- Lucky to have made it as far as he has with his terrible defense. Hes a contender creation.

Now thats not to diminish the wins of Manfredo jr., because he moved up in weight for those two fights. I just dont see him in the same class whatsoever as a Calzaghe. If Joe wants to be recognized as the best p4p, he has to fight better opposition. Im not interested in a Manfredo fight, Im interested in a B-Hop fight. Or even a better fight than Manfredo, in Kessler. I feel hes stepping down in competition for this fight.

this fight is a stepping stone for joe, there is no fighter stateside at 168 better than manfreido and thats what joe wants to cement his legacy, he's beat everybody in the division now for 10 years now its legacy fights he craves and manfreido is a step towards that because of the exposure he has gotten stateside in the contender and since. by the way joe's tried to make the hop fight for years now and roy jones didn't want to know either.

I think Nigel Benn would have been a very tough costomer for Joe. In his prime i reckon he would beat Calzaghe due to the fact he had a unbeilivable heart which he proved against mcclelan and had great power. I think Calzaghe would have beaten a prime eubank and Collins. Styles make fights and Calzaghes rough and agrresive style would have been made for them.

Calzaghe is a good fighter not a great one. He have a good chance of lossing his next fight. Taylor will ko him. If he is so great why dont he go up in weight to get a few big pay day fights. Plus the fights will be something that we all would like to see. I would love to see him fight Tarver or Bell or Jones Jr. But the fight that he will likely get will be with B-Hop. Wrong move Hopkins will pick him apart all night.

man you should have a liitle chat with Tommy gun. Hell tell you that calzaghe is awsome and is one of the best boxers in the world. I agree with you that taylor has what it takes but a washed up hopkins. hehe thats disgracefull mate. Calzaghe would destroy him, just like he done with lacy. He would also destry Jones Jr now. And kessler.

Ouma didnt bully anyone . He just showed that he could continue to walk forward while getting beat up. Taylor showed that he can fight going backwards now. Thanks to Steward.Calzaghe is a good fighter but to really show me something he needs to fight someone bigger not smaller. So what he beat up a weak over rated Lacy. What else has he done?

Well he also walked forwrd. But didnt bully. And 1 of the people that thought that Taylor won the fight. 115-113 Winkys face told the story of the fight. Taylors eye swole from a head butt.
