It appears that Matt Vanda will now have some extra pressure when he faces Anthony Bonsante next week in Minneapolis. Irish Ropes, the management team of popular middleweight John Duddy, have named Matt Vanda as their choice for Duddy's opponent for an upcoming March 16 bout.

The Irish Gazette reports that the bout would be the main event of a card held at Madison Square Garden, with various Irish fighters filling up the undercard. Duddy's team are confident that the St. Patrick's Day themed event will be a sell out.

Duddy was originally scheduled to appear on a Gotham Boxing card on January 11, at Roseland Ballroom in New York, but pulled out over an eye injury that was suffered in his last bout with Yory Boy Campas.

"There is no point in risking John's progress against lesser opponents. Vanda has been pencilled in to meet John but that will be contingent on how he (Vanda) does against Tony Bonsante in Minneapolis next week. If Vanda does not do well in that fight then we may look elsewhere for an opponent, we will see," said Eddie McLoughlin of Irish Ropes.
