Tapia recovery expected!
by Chris Cozzone
A source very close to the family of Johnny Tapia says that the five-time world champ is fully expected to recover from his current condition and is receiving necessary medical attention. Tapia had been suffering from pneumonia before an apparent drug overdose, which complicated his condition.
------
Trish Hoffman, spokesperson for the Albuquerque Police Department say that Tapia will be charged with possession of a controlled substance and that a plastic bag containing a white substance found at the scene has been confirmed as cocaine.

i cant help but like johnny he's a very nice guy, he just seems to have been delt a sh*t hand at life
Life didnt put that cocaine in his hand and make his do it. That was his choice.
People do make a bad decisions, but continually making the same mistake is just asking for it.
He did do the coke which is his choice, but he was delt a horrible hand in life. I don't think many people in his situation would turn out ok. Just like some people are born into wealth and never have to worry about much. He's a nice guy and I hope he can someday let his past go and get on to a better life.
Dumbass move in my opinion. No excuses. I may get flamed for bringing up Floyd but it's the best example I can think of. He grew up with 8 siblings living in one room, crackhead mother, and drug dealing father. No coke in Floyds posession.

floyd didn't see his mother raped and murderd infront of him though.
Robert Gutierrez, 39, brother--in-law to Johnny Tapia, was killed before dawn Tuesday on his way back to Albuquerque from Farmington when the car he was in rolled off the highway. 23-year-old Ben Garcia was with him. State police say neither Gutierrez and Garcia had been wearing seat belts, and that alcohol may have been a factor. Investigators found empty bottles and partially consumed bottles at the scene. Gutierrez was Tapia's right hand man, and one of his cornermen at every fight. -- Chris Cozzone

this should just about finnish tapia off. very sad for a guy who's life is full of tragedy. if they ever made a movie about johnnys life it would break every record at the BOXOFFICE.

Everyone has a tragedy.
Sad, but true IMO.
Yet another sad chapter in Tapia's life.If he chooses not to get clean and sober this will happen again if he's lucky.Next time maybe fatal. He has had his bouts with being clean so he knows what and where to go,maybe this time will supply him with a moment of truth, wich may motivate him enough for him to get on his knees and believe his powerlessness.
good luck Johnny
Well I was delt a very bad hand too in life. I've had more than my share of tragedy in my life. I stood next to my best friend as his head was being blown off. And othr tragedys that I dont want to discuss and I dont do drugs. I was born and raised in the projects and still I never made the CHOICE to do drugs. This is his mistake his problem and his choice that he himself made. His tragedys didnt put that drug in his hands.
