Undefeated "WBA champion in recess" Travis Simms (25-0, 19 KOs) dethroned current WBA super welterweight titlist Jose Antonio Rivera (38-5-1, 24 KOs) with a dominating ninth round TKO. In round two, Simms bloodied Rivera's nose and was credited with a knockdown when Rivera fell into the ropes. After that, Simms went on to pound Rivera in every round, finally dropping Rivera again in the ninth before the one-sided affair was halted by referee Frank Santore Jr. at 2:00.

I thought Simms would be rusty after the long layoff, he hasnt fought in 2 years.

He was nailing Rivera with the left hand all night.

Simms looked great & is one of the best in the dvision. Hopefully he will stay active.
