23.02.07 - By Thomas Schlabe and Ricardo Lois, Boxingconfidential.com - Britian's Daily Mail Jeff Powell reports that former Heavyweight Champion Lennox Lewis is considering a boxing comeback. Powell's reports states that promoter Frank Warren has been tipped by American insiders that Lewis is contemplating a rematch of his 2003 battle with Vitali Klitschko.

Bob Arum is quoted in the story as saying, " I am told Lennox is back in the gym and this is an enormous fight in the making."

The report further speculates that the WBC would grant Lewis an immediate bout against the winner of the proposed boxing fight between WBC champion Oleg Maskaev and Vitali Klitschko.

Jose Sulaiman of the WBC and Bob Arum, both quoted in the report were not available for comment, due to the late time of the break news here in the Western United States.

Tommorow morning Boxing Confidential will investigate this interesting report.

I guess Peter will get shuffled further back in line.
yip peter should get his shot around 2012 now after holmes, tyson, frazier, norton and foreman all anounce comebacks.
Personally I think Lennox should stay gone. He went out when he was still good if he comes back he might make himself look bad. I know its hard to quit but sometimes you just need to let go. You don't wanna end up like Evander do you Lennox?

I agree with you, although if he looks anywhere near as good as he did when he left, he would still dominate.
I really hope he stays retired as well.

Lennox Lewis comeback?
Former heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis is reportedly considering coming out of retirement for a world championship rematch with Vitali Klitschko. The bout could take place at the newly contructed Wembley Stadium in late September and early November and purses in the $25 million range are being mentioned. Promoter Bob Arum told the Daily Mail, "No matter how often a boxer says he will never come back, the money always talks louder in the end if the offer is big enough. I am told Lennox is back in the gym and this is an enormous fight in the making." For Lewis-Klitschko II to take place, Vitali would have to first defeat WBC champ Oleg Maskaev. WBC president Jose Sulaiman said Lewis would be granted "champion emeritus" status, which according to WBC rules could give Lewis an immediate shot at the title, bypassing hard luck mandatory challenger Sam Peter yet again. Peter has won two WBC eliminators and his handlers are currently mulling over a $2.5 million step-aside offer for Klitschko-Peter to take place. Arbitration on that matter could be next.

I think Lewis knows it didn't look good for him when the rematch wasn't made after their first meeting.
Poor Peter what will happen to him if this deal gos through?

Statement From Lennox on February 24, 2007
Although I'm flattered that the boxing community is eager to have me back in the ring, I have no plans to return. I have no idea how these rumors get started, but I'm a man of my word - I will remain retired.
I'm happy with my life and I don't need to chase a big payday. I'm enjoying commentating for HBO and I'm keeping busy with business ventures and fatherhood. I'm proud of what I accomplished as champion and confident that my legacy will remain intact.

I'm sure Lennox Lewis said in an interview a little while back that he wasn't going to be one of those old guys who doesn't retire/keeps on making comebacks... why the flip-flop? I don't know why I don't think much of Lennox Lewis. He is a nice guy. He doesn't have a criminal record. He doesn't talk trash. He backs up everything he says. He destroyed/got revenge against both of the bums that somehow beat him... and he beat all of the best that The Heavyweight Division has on offer during his career... so why do I not think much of him?

Because he boxed way too safe... because he was a boring out-fighter... HE WAS A SMART FIGHTER... he knew he was bigger, stronger, and had that long reach... but instead of getting down and dirty in the nitty gritty of it... he was always punching... and backing off... punching... and backing off!!! MOST OUT-FIGHTERS HAVE GREAT FOOTWORK... and get into it as well... like Leonard and Ali... not Lewis... he just punched... and backed off! Punched... and backed off! I guess that's why I don't think much of him... and I still say that A PRIME TYSON WOULD HAVE KILLED EVERY SINGLE POSSIBLE VERSION OF LENNOX LEWIS... as a matter of fact... a prime Tyson would've killed almost everybody!!!

Lewis didn't have the moves , so he had to do what he had to
do.As far as Tyson goes,I agree I think his career got short changed. The combination of King coming into his life along with no guidence and being simple minded did him in.:(
i never cared for lewis but i gotta addmit i do miss seeing that guy in the ring.. i wouldnt have mind to see him return
