Enzo Maccarinelli will return to the ring on Saturday 6 December to fight American Jonathon Banks for the vacant WBO world cruiserweight title.

The Welshman, 28, was due to make his comeback against Banks in July, but it was put back to September and now December at east London's ExCel Arena.

He has not fought since losing his WBO world title to David Haye in March.

"This is my chance to win my title back and get my career back on track," said Maccarinelli.

"It's been a while since my fight with Haye and I'm not going to dwell on it, what happened happened and it's in the past.

"Since the fight I've just had my head down and been putting the hours in the gym correcting what I did wrong and I believe that I'm better than before.

"I've got to prove a lot of people wrong."

Maccarinelli is desperate to make amends for his second-round knockout defeat by Haye at the O2 Arena.

For me, this is more about what I can do not what he can do

And he will have an opportunity to make up for that loss when he takes on Banks for the WBO title, which Haye vacated in order to move up to heavyweight.

IBO champion Banks is number one in the World Boxing Organisation rankings and will be paid 60% of the $450,000 purse (£227,000) for coming to fight in the UK.

The Detroit fighter is unbeaten in 20 fights with 14 knockouts - nine inside the first round.

But Maccarinelli says he is not worried.

"He's got an good record with plenty of knockouts but I can bang also so I reckon it's going to be a real tear up on the night.

"I'm certainly not underestimating him and he probably thinks the same about me after the Haye fight.

"But after seeing his last fight against Vincenzo Rossitto I'm confident that I can beat this guy.

"For me, this is more about what I can do not what he can do.

"I've got to get back in there and prove to people that I am a champion and I will do that."
Who you got? Don't know an awfull lot about Banks to be honest! What do the americans on the site think about him!

I'm hoping maccarinelli will win, and i think he will! it'l be good for welsh boxing once we have another world champion again!

I'm going with Banks, hes not the most brillant fighter ever to be built be Emmanuel Steward but I think he can beat Maccarinelli. He has better balance and is good in many departments, although his chin is a little suspect.
