Most pundits have given Oscar De La Hoya the edge in punching power when he meets Floyd Mayweather, Jr. on May 5 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Mayweather, moving up to 154-pounds against the larger man for the WBC junior middleweight title, does not agree and boasts that his own punching power will surprise the media, and De La Hoya.

"I've got a hell of a knockout ratio and I feel that's what is going to be the surprise for Oscar on May 5 - my punching power. My hands are strong and I feel good. Weight doesen't win a fight. Fame doesn't win a fight. Smartness and intelligence win a fight," Mayweather said. "Everybody says Oscar has a good left hook. Well Floyd Mayweather has a good left hook, a good right hand and can dig to the body with both hands. He has the best defense in boxing and can beat you inside or outside."

Mayweather noted that while De La Hoya is the bigger man, he also has big issues with stamina, and Mayweather plans to exploit those issues in the fight.

"You've got one fighter in the best shape of his life but he always gets tired. Against Floyd Mayweather you better not come out and shoot your load. If you do, it'll be your ass early. He's always in the best shape of his life, but he still gets tired. Once I get in that square circle I know what to do. I'm the master when it comes to that. I feel good, I'm happy and there's no chip on my shoulder. Fighters that wear their heart on their sleeve tend to come up short - I don't do that," Mayweather said.

well he was easily on his way to knock gatti out. He was beating got worse than anyone has beat than guy up. I for one am a huge mayweather fan and an even bigger gatti fan because of his heart and he was good for boxing. I dont think floyd will knock oscar out. But floyd is looking pretty built in the 24/7 series and when he sits down on his punches, he can hit pretty hard. You can tell by the sound of them. He is by no means the hardest hitting welterweight or junior middleweight but he is not the weakest.

DLH killed Gatti way worse than Floyd. It would not have lasted half as long with DLH hitting him like that. What, they called that fight in like the 11th? If they would not have stopped it it would have gone to the cards.

11th? you sure dont know your fight history very well, more like half that, and gatti put up a reasonably good fight against delahoya , oscar got tagged a few times, gatti never landed a punch on floyd. they stopped the oscar fight in the 5th and they stopped the mayweather fight in the 6th. Floyd's fight against gatti was a highlight real, delahoya's fight with him was not the case. Watch the fights again. Im sure you just like dlh better but dont argue something you cant back up.

Sorry I got the round wrong. As you can tell I don't follow Floyd to well. Probably cuz he hasn't fought anyone in like 4 yrs. But Floyd fighting a guy way past his prime and say its a highlight real. The only reason he even fought him was to take his belt so he could pad his record and his ego. And believe me, I can back up all my arguements.

Floyd has decent power when his hands are healthy. However, at 154 I would rank his power only around a 5 on a 10 point scale for this particular weight. If he were still at his more natural weight his power to weight would go up. He will not knock Oscar out.
