Kessler KOs Beyer in 3!
Unifies WBC and WBA super middleweight titles
Super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (38-0, 29 KOs) retained his WBA world title and added the WBC world title of Markus Beyer (34-3-1, 13 KOs) with a spectacular third round KO on Saturday night at Parken Stadium in Copenhagen, Denmark. Not many connects early on, Kessler was very busy with his excellent left jab, while the southpaw Beyer concentrated on the body. Kessler finally opened up in round three and dropped Beyer for the count with left-right combination. Time was 2:58. After the fight, Kessler stated "I expected a tougher fight.....My right hit at the right time. However, he also hit my liver, there I had to swallow quite a lot." Beyer acknowledged that Kessler has a lot of power in his hands and the 35-year-old three-time former champion would not comment on his future, except to say, "How it goes from here, I don't know yet exactly."
