Jamaica - After a four-week trial, a twelve-member jury at the Portland Circuit Court in Buff Bay found 21-year-old Harold Berbick guilty of murdering his uncle, former WBC heavyweight champion Trevor Berbick. The other suspect, 19-year-old Kenton Gordon, was found guilty of manslaughter.
Sentencing is scheduled for January 11. The attorney for Berbick's nephew told the Jamaica Gleamor that he plans to appeal the verdict. Berbick's wife Nadane, daughters, Trisha and Nadia, and sister, Beverlee, felt justice was served.
Berbick, 54, was found dead on October 28, 2006 in Jamaica, with four wounds to the back of his head. He was the last man to fight Muhammad Ali, beating the aging Ali by ten-round decision in 1981.
