In the first heavyweight title fight ever to be held in Mexico, "The Nigerian Nightmare" Samuel Peter (30-1, 23 KOs) stopped Oleg Maskaev (34-6, 26 KOs) in round six to claim the WBC heavyweight title in Saturday night at the Plaza De Toros in Cancun. Both fighters rocked each other in an exciting round three, and Peter had established a two point lead after four rounds. Peter ended the show with a sustained barrage of punches that prompted referee Guadelupe Garcia to stop the fight. Time was 2:56.

Before Peter's last fight, I would have said he would win, but now I don't know. He showed really bad performance against a second-rate fighter like McCline who has no stamina to speak of. Maskaev, though, tends to outlast younger guys and can inflict some pain with the right hand (Rahman I & II).

Ive been talking smack about Sam Peter for some time now, altough i cant see Maskaev winning this fight thought, he old and slow, kind alike peter but the difference is he young and has power, but still Wlad would kill him in rematch and i think Chagaev would win him aswell.

It will be interesting to see how he does here. McCline certainly was a strange fight, he has shown an iron chin in the past but looked very vulnerable in there with McCline. I want to see him look good, and knock Maskaev out in this fight:thumbsup:

the thing about these big guys is if the right punch lands its all over.

mcline caught sam with the right shot and it left him vulnrable for a round or 2, that doesn't mean he has a bad chin that means he has a good chin because lesser fighters would not have been able to get through that.

i think maskaev is heavily underated, he works hard for 12 rounds, has a descent chin and also has power in both hands, thats a dangerous fighter right there.

anyway, im picking sam to win but not by much. 115-113.

Did you really say boring? He might be the most exciting there is in the HW division right now.

Wow...that's arguable. Peter is one of the strongest HW in the division...don't sleep on Peter because he could put most of the HW to sleep

Peter is somewhat fun to watch. Wlad is more entertaining to me but I think Wlad can get a late round TKO on Peter just as Peter will do to Maskeav. Hopefully this fight leads to a rematch if Wlad wins as well. But Peter can't look past Maskeav as he is still a decent fighter and could pull off a decision if Peter doesn't knock him out.

Imo Peter is just boring he fights for one minute every round and clinches and does nothing for two, i watched both toney fights and man, the first fight Peter should have been dqed or atleast taken 1 or 2 points away and btw it was a close decision and did you see how fat Toney was? Wlad would have knocked him out in 5. The second fight Toney comes out looking like the black version of Butterbean or something i mean just look at Chris avatar thats fat And that fight was so boring imo i just started to hate Peter on another lvl after that fight.

And then came the fight against a guy whos known for being knocked out by any decent fighter out there but what do you know he give Peter a freocius beating and almosts end the fight in what 2rds and McCline ofc couldnt finish cause hes just not that good, i would like to see what Wlad would have done in that situation, and well gets his ass together and pulls out a fkn boring decision where he kinda look scared agains McCline the rest of the fight. Imo hes no good.

prime(skinny/er) Toney would beat either of these guys along with Wlad...too let YOU know lol. McCline fight was a fluke IMO. Peter KO's McCline 3 out of 5 fights. Think he just underestimated McCline and took to many heavy punches.
