I am researching on a documentary and looking for heavyweights that once were great, but now are past their prime, and still fighting. can anyone come up with any names?

There many of them including Chris Byrd, Tony Tubbs, Michael Moorer, Jameel McCline, Oliver McCall, David Tua, Fres Oquendo, Lou Savarese, Maurice Harris, Corey Sanders and Evander Holyfield.

The Real Deal is an interesting case... because... HE IS WINNING... but unsatisfactorily... and has lost a few along the way! I reckon he should have retired FOR GOOD after he lost to Lennox Lewis in November of 1999... in my honest opinion!!!

I always fought Mike Tyson should've stopped somewhere in the 90s... as of late... I was thinking that he should never have come back after he got out of jail... even though it was very entertaining to see him dispatch of "The Hurricane" Peter McNeeley so very easily and quickly... OH YES... that was a classic moment!

Anyways... during the 90s/00s... Tyson was over the hill!

Holyfield is the only current one that fits the bill, as far as heavyweights go.

I just wanted to give him a list that he can work with.

Chris Byrd, Tony Tubbs, Michael Moorer, Jameel McCline, Oliver McCall, David Tua, and Evander Holyfield were all Champions or Leading contenders at one time or another.

Ok so I would say Holyfield & Bowe.

You could throw in Tyson since he is still competing in these exhibition fights.

Bowe fought his last bout on April 7, 2005 against Billy Zumbrun. So he hasn't fought in 20-1/2 months.

Just read on fightnews today he is still planning on fighting next year. So I still consider him some what active.

Stack, make sure you look at who is managing these guys and who promoted their fights.Most did not do well with money or fame.I am sure most fight past their prime to pay off debt. But in Evander's case it's more ego than anything else.Please keep us informed on the progress of your documentary.....

I too, would be interersted in seeing the final product of this documentary.

The focus of your documentary might change a little, from a timeline perspective, since their are few heavies who are considered "great" and that are still actively fighting. (these days)

Anyone who didn't win a title couldn't be considered great, in my books. (Not in the last ten years, anyways)

**edit to add: not everyone who won a title at heavyweight in the last ten years should be considered great, either! **
