Paul Williams, Andre Berto: HBO Double For 2/9

After all of the back and forth negotiations over money, the fight is finally set. Paul Williams (33-0, 24 KOs) will defend his WBO welterweight title against Carlos Quintana (24-1, 19 KOs) on Feb. 9, with udefeated welterweight prospect Andre Berto in the co-feature. HBO has moved Williams' bout from Feb. 2 to Feb. 9, the date originally reserved for the Juan Diaz-Michael Katsidis lightweight bout that fell apart last week.

Quintana replaces IBF welterweight champion Kermit Cintron, who suffered a hand injury during a title defense win over Jesse Feliciano on November 23.

An opponent for Berto has not been named, but boxing scribe Dan Rafael reports that former champ Steve Forbes (33-5, 9 KOs), Miki Rodriguez (29-2, 23 KOs) of Mexico and Isaac Hlatshwayo (27-1, 9 KOs) are the three fighters in the running for the slot.

berto and forbes? i think berto' combination of speed and power would be too much for forbes to overcome. i'm glad williams finally gets to let them go again;)
alfonso gomez is also in the talks for berto to fight.
gomez v berto could be a good scrap, say what you like about gomez being on the contender guys but he's one helluva tough kid.

id favor berto to win but it wont be a walk in the park.
berto would beat gomez but it would be a decent test.
i'd much rather see berto fight gomez than forbes.
forbes has in fact been pretty good as of lately. He beat dhop clearly in my mind, and got the W against that other good fighter who fights alot like berto but clearly isnt of his caliber. I'd like to see it.
Yeah, exciting news that we get to see two of the top young fighters on the same card.

I'd of course much rather be seeing Paul against Cintron, but at least he's takin ga fight to stay busy until the matchup can happen.

Berto against either one of those two would be a solid matchup. Gomez would be a fun bout.
quintana isnt a bad guy to have on your resume either, lets not forget he's beat joel julio and and some other good contender. He's only lost once.
Yeh and that was to Cotto, nothing to be ashamed of there. Quintana will give Williams a good test in this fight, but it should be an easy win.
My thoughts exactly.
Gomez vs Berto would be a great fight. Gomez might be about to take it.
i think he'll touch berto up pretty good, but will still go down in defeat.
Gomez is definetly game, this should be a good fight.
Now that I think about Gomez last 2 fights I can see him winning this fight.
it's possible. gomez has looked good recently.

very very good
I think Berto will win this fight, but i think Gomez will cause him some problems. Berto has very quick hands and awesome power, though i see Gomez being game and looking to slug it out i see Berto having a bit too much class for him. Im looking forward to this though, should be a great nights boxing:thumbsup:

I dig what you are saying but the 1 thing that I havent seen from Berto yet is Class
Berto is an outstanding talent. I think he'll make some noise in 2008
