i've been boxing for about 6 months now and i got my 1st bout saturday. just wondering what kind of prep others do from 1 or 2 days before a bout up until fight time. I'm a heavy weight so i don't have to make weight.

wondering should still do my road work friday and saturday morning. and my bag and ring work friday night?

also wondering if i should alter my diet prior to fight time.

Id keep the road work to a minimum 2 days before, and no grinding it out the day before. just a light warm up, maybe hit the mitts. Make sure you get plenty of rest the night before, and eat a good energy meal for dinner the night before, drink a little milk as well if you can. Lots of energy cals in milk. Hydrate well with water the day of the fight, and other than that, just try to stay relaxed and rested so you put yourself in the best position to win. Good luck !
Stay focused stay rested! What ever you do stay busy. You only have 2 minutes.Always finish strong at the end of each round.Good luck and keep us posted.
What they said just about covers it. I have been boxing for about 11 months (closer to a year) and am about to sign up for ameratures too. What gym do you go to???
White Bear Lake gym in MN.
Excellent advice.

Also remember, in the amateur bouts there is alot of emphasis on combinations . Dont throw single punches all the time. Make sure you throw punches in bunches.

how did you do ?. the best advice i can give you is stay loose maybe some pad work. the week of the fight DO NOT OVERTRAIN I REPEAT DO NOT OVERTRAIN. a bit of shadow boxing, pad work and some light skiping, just enough to keep you loose. you dont want to burn yourself out.
unfortuneatley i didn't get to fight. The card got cut down from 14 bouts to 7. 1 team wasn't able to show, and a couple got knocked off due to experience levels not matching i think.

Its cool tho, i have a lot of work to do still before i'm ready to box regularly. I feel like i'm ready to get this 1st bout under my belt, but i have a long long way to go before i'm ready for open class.

Anyone have any thoughts on the best way to increase hand speed to your maximum potential? I can land punches, but i get countered to death by really experienced fighters. especially with the overhand right.
the obvious thing to do to increase speed is work with the speed ball but our trainer adds 8lb wrist weights to us and sends us to do workouts like bag speed and pad. this will also add strengh to your arms which can increase punch power. keep skipping though !!!
