Questions for a competing professional boxer

801 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  boxing writer
Hey all,

I'm working as a research assistant for a freelance writer. The writer is putting together a column about boxing, specifically not the top of the heap world of professional boxing, but rather boxers who have day jobs and travel to fight either on the weekends or in the rest of their free time.

I'm not necessarily speaking of somebody who has dreams of becoming the next world contender in their weight class but of somebody for whom it is mostly about the love of fighting, and the bills get paid some other way. Thanks for your time, and for reading. I can be reached here on the forums or by email.

I suggest go to as many club fights as you can. These shows are the backbone of boxing here in the us.In my area,Baltimore/Wash.DC and N.Va. there are several gyms and club shows. At least once a month there is a pro or amatuer show. There is a lot of rivalry which makes great hometown hero atmosphere. This is where you'll see hardcore fans and serious fighters. There are all types of fighters here, young and new to older, journeyman, and even a former Cruiser wt champ who has made a come back (Boone Pultz).Club shows would be a great place to write about the nuts and bolts of boxing.
Brilliant.

Thanks for the help. This world is pretty unfamiliar to me, so this suggestion helps a lot. Would you be able to give me a name of one of the clubs? I can get the other information on my own but if there are a couple places that are more reputable than others that would be a really helpful pointer.

The home-town hero angle is sort of what this column supposed to be about as I understand it, but I'm just supposed to push pencils, keys and paper. I'll let my boss make the contacts.
What area are you from? just send me an email address via the private message. And I'll get you some info on the upcoming boxing scene here at least.

Where are you from?
I'm based in NYC, but the writer is looking for anyplace outside of the tri-state area. If this were a NY question I would be able to chase these things down on foot without having to hastle strangers with idiotic questions. Thanks again for all the replies.
