i posted this on another site and Pork Chop recomended I post here to supplement his review.

I was in the market for gloves recently, I found some good info here, and I thought I might post a review.
I have been using Twins 14oz gloves for a few years, since I was doing mostly Muay Thai, but now that I am focusing on boxing again I thought it might be a good time to pick up some new gear. I am 6’1 and weigh 225lbs (1.83m and 16.07 Stone) I have decent size hands, not overly large from the bottom of my hand to tip of middle finger is 8” and from the outside of my thumb to ridge of my hand is 4.5”. Thought I would throw that in because otherwise fit is meaningless.
First Purchase
Ringside.com
Cleto Reyes Super Bag Gloves $99.99
Velcor and Lace (these have come a few different ways over the years)
The sizing on these is ambiguous they come in Junior, Regular, and Large. I found out later that this translates into 12,14,16oz. Ringside sells these as bag gloves, but they are EXACTLY the same as my lace and Velcro gloves I got from Mexico except the color. I think Ringside sells these as bag gloves because of the weight, just a guess though.
I bought the Regular (14oz). The quality is excellent, Reyes stamps these gloves just inside the Velcro stamp, so you can ensure authenticity.
They where tight when I put them on without wraps, and with the wraps they gave me some trouble, I changed my wrapping style, to accommodate the fit and was able to get them broken in. I thought of sending them back and getting the Larges, but decided to keep them. I’m glad I did, they fit great and provide good support and protection. I did notice that between the back of the padded potion of the glove and the Velcro wrist strap there is a little more flex than I would like, but I just wrapped my wrist once more. I can make a good tight fist in these and am happy with the gloves. The only down side is that the lace and Velcro does not close well with just the Velcro so you will need help putting them on.

Cleto Reyes 16oz Training gloves Velcro and lace closure. $119
Great quality roomy inside allows me to wrap any way I like and use knuckle guards for those days when I’m sore. No complaints at all, very durable and protecting. Exactly like the above but bigger and all black with white trim.

Grant Professional Super Power Bag Gloves $124.00 Size Reg 12oz
AWSOME!! These are great gloves; I used them for my entire workout (except sparring). The quality is great, padding is very hard initially, the inside feels different than any of my other gloves which usually have nylon lining. These are cloth, different feel, but good. The best part of these gloves is how solid they feel. The Velcro strap goes all the way around the wrist and they used the good Velcro (a real sore spot with me because I have had to replace the Velcro on my twins gloves twice) They are a little tight until broken in, but fit perfectly after 2 workouts. These gloves are worth every penny, and I will never use any other bag gloves again.

I will keep the Reyes bag gloves for training my lighter students. The Reyes 16s are great for sparring, I am going to try a pair of Grant Lace up trainers when they get back in stock 6/30.

Just got the new Ringside Catalog

It looks like Reyes is now selling a Velcro Only training glove. I have not seen it on their website yet, but it looks like Ringside gave them some input, they have a elastic cover over the velcro closure. I ordered a pair, and wil post a review when I can.

Thanks for this review. I've been researching different sparring gloves and have been considering the 16 oz Reyes. I'm just about your size, though, and was concerned about the fit, as I'd heard that they were pretty tight and were built for people with smaller hands and shorter fingers. Glad you like them, I will definitely check them out now.

I would go with Cleto Reyes or Fuel Fight Gear any day over Grants.
