i was just doing a bit of reading up on the latest boxing news around the world, trying to keep myself entertained at work and came across this article-

BBC SPORT | Boxing | Jones eager to take on Calzaghe

i don't know if this is relevant or even if i'm allowed to start up a thread like this but thought some people might be interested.

Yeah Jones amde it clear in some interviews hes aiming Calzaghe after the tito fight...He said he wants no part of hopkins, so Im assuming Jones is picking Joe to win
i'd say jones has probably predicted the winner correctly, i think a "roy jones jr vs. joe calzaghe" should've been made way before hopkins and calzaghe,

i still think joe calzaghe will win against jones, but it will be a much closer and a better fight!
RJJ beats Calz
RJJ beats Calz
only if calzaghe has his hands tied behind his back!

the old man won't be able to keep up with calzaghe

I dont think Calz has a shot in hell to beat RJJ. But if you tie Roys hands behind his back he'll still be able to ko Calz. He showed the world that he could do stuff like that. :D
haha good point! he's been made famous for it lol

but on a serious point i really can't see RJJ knocking out calzaghe

about 6-7 years ago then i'd completely agree with you but RJJ isn't half the fighter he was then.

Yea I dont think it'll be a ko either but I do think Roy would win a clear UD.
sorry its getting confusing talking to you about 2 different things on 2 different threads lol
but it keeps me entertained at work

no way, calzaghe throws over a thousand punches a fight he is one of the most active figthers ever, no way will a RJJ at 39 yrs old be able to outbox calzaghe! he won't have the stamina for it!

Im at work too lol. But It will be about the Skill level and CALZ wont match Roy. Roy will have the stamina and skill to win. Styles make fights.
well we'll have to wait and see then i suppose, if the fight happens that is.....

hopefully it will, its got classic fight written all over it, i'll be hoping its in the UK so i might be able to get a ticket for it!

Roys skills have never been on the same planet as Joe's Ron, Roy was a speed and reflex fighter, when those went he had nothing to fall back on.

Tarver was able to outbox him.

STYLES MAKES FIGHTS. So you mean to tell me that a professional boxer in this erea can be as sucessful as RJJ was with nothing but hand speed and reflexes??? Are you serious???

I never said Roy had no skill, there were just a lot more fighters skilled than him, he made up for this and a whole lot more by being so fast and elusive. speed and reflexes aren't a skill.

You forget that Joes also super fast.

This is styles match thats all wrong for Roy if anybody, he's finished.....Ya'll must have forgot. :D

Joe is fast but Roy we all know was and on a completely differnt level than being just fast or even super fast. But hes slow a little and they are now saying that hes just as fast as he once was (that'll be see Saturday). And how many superfast skilled wold champ fighters have Claz fought???

no noe because clazaghe is the only superfast skilled champ in his weight division! duhhh lol

set yourself up for that one!

The thing with Roy is his hands are still as fast as ever but his reflexes are shot to peices, Roys defence was his reflexes.

He cant get out the way of the punches any more and with the chin being so vulnrable he not only loses to Calzaghe but also any fighter ranked in the top five of 175.

Roy will never beat any fighter A-level again, a lot of the B guys beat him to.

Ok so that mean hes been fighting nobodys all his career. So congrats to Joe Calzaghe. He might make it to 50-0 if he continues to fight the talent hes been fighting. Or dont take the Hopkins fight and keeps avioding RJJ.
so, the consensus is that jones and calzaghe is the fight that should be made, huh? i disagree wholeheartedly. while it may look better in the ring it's not the better fight in regards to legacies. how does a man who has been recently knocked out twice compared to a fighter that only has 2 questionable decision losses recently? calzaghe needs to fight hopkins, and not jones.

I agree but win, lose, or draw I would still like to see Hopkins vs RJJII and Calz vs RJJ
