Leonard was the better boxer, but Duran was definately a better slugger/puncher.
Would you say Leonard was quicker and fitter?

Stonger mentally or Physically ??

Far as just pure Brute Strength or One Punch power goes to Duran

Endurence Going the distacne, mentally strong being able to handle addvisary, stonger willed, and just about every thing else goes to Sugar.

I do not want to take away anything away from Duran. He was a great fighter who ranks amung the very best.

Yes! Duran was physicaly stronger than Leonard with more power, Leonard was the boxer, the speed guy. Leonard was faster than Ali!
I agree with you! It was like Foreman/Ali... Foreman/Duran was a hell of a lot stronger with a hell of a lot more power... but Ali/Leonard was quicker... fitter... and could go the distance more... endurance... Foreman/Duran would just want the quick knock out but Leonard/Ali would stay with them with their out-fighting and slick style... I agree with you BILL!

Technicaly Leonard was the better boxer. Technicaly Duran was a slugger. Leonard was the boxer. Leonard would jab and run combo, then run. Duran just charged you punching and fighting. Also Leonard proved in the rematch that he could take Duran by beating the heck out of him. THe first fight Leonard wanted to slug it out with Duran, and failed.

So the definition of a boxer is a guy who jabs and run combo and moves around well. If we are talking about styles, yes, then Ray is the better boxer. Roberto is combination of a lot of styles boxer/puncher/slugger. But, then again I like his style.

wow guy's duran when he chose could box brilliantly he just liked a brawl.

he was just as fast as leonard but he was a natural lightweight where leonard was a welter.

all in all i would say leonard was better but dont think for a minute that duran was just a slugger because he was a great boxer, just not as good as leonard.

No question that both these guys were great. IMO if you had to label them then Ray was the boxer and Duran was the slugger, But Roberto had the ability to adapt to whomever he fought he possessed great skills, but had a chin and a head like a Rock. When he was focused he could wear you down and then take you out.Ray knew how to win rounds when he needed to and was the definition of that "reach down in your heart" at the end of the fight and make that 15th round the best round of your life. If Duran and Ray fought 10 times it would be Ray 6, Duran 4,........

Leonard was Quicker and slicker, but I don't know about fitter.Duran at his best was a true fighter.Did you see when he won his first title from Buchanan?
what a animal. He defended that title 12 times befor moving up to welterweight. His first fight with Leonard again shows you how fit he could be.
In the second fight with Leonard he(duran) looked very lack luster. Maybe Leonard was confusing him,I don't know, but there was no intense effort that was shown in the past. Then he leaves the ring (no mas).I often wonder if he had to take a sh--t.
What do you think:confused: :)

Leonard and Duran had totally different styles,so for me it's hard to say who was the best.Leonard favored boxing but he could bang. Duran was more then just a slugger and a lot more ringwise then some think.
