The best sluggger ever.

I would have to say the best slugger ever was Rocky Marciano. He just came right at you and when you were in range punched away. In the middleweights Hagler was probably the best slugger at, he just wore you down. What do you think?

slugger

Bill, her is one to think about: Archie Moore

First pro fight 1935, last bout 1963! Won 187, 132 by KO!! 23 losses and 11 draws. Now that is one hell of a record. Archie is the guy that makes me always second guess My pick for greatest.I am not saying that he was but he sure is up there for me.He did fight all the best at the time. I think that he fought Rocky and lost but I don't know when.Rocky had some great KO's but archie had almost a 100 more. So Archie will always be in my to 5 and they don't have numbers, Louis, Marciano,Ali, Moore, and Holmes.
Marciano had an 88% KO rating, with 43 KO's of his 49 fights. He beat Archie Moore by KO in the 9th round in 1956, Marciano's last fight.
Holmes 1st pro fight was in 1973, his last was in 2002 against Butterbean, who Larry beat the heck out of.
I think that judging by the comments of those who were on the receiving end of his best shots, Earnie Shavers has to rank VERY High.
Yeah, he was a great slugger but Marciano would beat him.
Mike Tyson. I never considered Tyson a boxer more of a slugger/brawler. I don't like Tyson as a person but as a fighter he was one of the best.

It would've been a great fight. As you know, there's two parts to a slugfest and that's not just landing bombs but also being able to take them, and I think I'd agree with you that Rocky took it a little better than Shavers did,Earnie got stopped by Quarry,Ron Stander beleive it or not,Holmes II and Tex Cobb.
I don't think he'd have stood up to Marciano's pressure.
Marciano could throw and take better punches than shavers, not to mention he was faster. Shavers always cocked his punches back Marciano, didn't.
The best sluggger ever.

thats just asking for it.
iron mike tyson. for shore.

you kill me sometimes.LOL
Marciano could slug it out with Tyson easy easy. The main difference between the two is Marciano could take and throw a better punch than Tyson.
arturo gatti has to be the best of the lighter guys.
One lighter weight guy from the past that pops into mind as a big hitter is Ruben Olivares. In his Prime,he had a KO pct of around 90+ percent, and the only guys who survived were elite fighters/champs.
What about Hagler? He was a bull.

[What do you mean beleive it or not Holmes II? Holmes was a great fighter/boxer, one of the greatest of all time. It's not that embarrasing or bad to be KO'd by him!]
Could he slug it out?
not 100% shore but i think he had 1 puch or 2 punch KO power.

Bill-
I missed a comma in there, the "beleive it or not" part is for Ron Stander. It's supposed to read Ron Stander beleive it or not THEN COMMA Holmes II, and Tex Cobb. Larry Holmes is my #4 HW of All Time, there's nothing wrong with losing to him at all in my book and Earnie was HW Champion for Six Seconds in that fight. I can see why your upset,I would be too. --Dave
