The greatest exercise in stupidity had to have been the Tyson vs. Spinks fight. If you will recall, Spinks people made a fuss about Michael going out last. As champion, Tyson should have been the one to make his entrance last. I remember it was a hug bru-ha-ha and ended with Spinks coming out last. Tyson was enraged and reminded me of a caged animal.

And 73 seconds later, it was all over. I've often wondered if the Spinks camp wasn't just trying to get the guy killed! In those days, you did not want to provoke Tyson.

I think he would have prefered a rematch with Holmes to get beat again rather then enter the ring with Tyson for the first time lol. Spinks didn't have a prare to last more than 2 rounds lol. Here is the fight:YouTube - Mike Tyson VS Michael Spinks

I always thought that it was 91 seconds... Tyson was at THE PINNACLE of his career at this very moment... everything would go down hill from there... DAMN IT!!!

LOL, Custard had better odds than Spinks. Even Ray Charles saw that KO coming.

Didn't Michael Spinks beat Larry Holmes not once... but twice? Mike Tyson also knocked a past his prime but game Larry Holmes out on his ass in 4 Rounds! Well... Mike Tyson was at his best then... all before he turned 22... TRAGIC!

Larry wasn't at his game, and he was robbed in both Spinks matches. Larry had 4 weeks to train for the Tyson fight, and Larry waas coming off of a 2 year lay off. Spinks on the other hand was 7 years younger than Holmes. Larry was 38 for the Tyson fight, Spinks was 31. Also the ref shouldn't jumped on Larry when he went down for the 3rd time in that corner. There were less than 10 seconds left, and Larry's arm got caught in the ropes when he threw a right uppercut.

I never said he did, I said he only had 4 weeks to train and was coming off a 2 year retirement and was 6 years past his prime at 38 years old.
I know you didn't say that... I just thought that I might let you know that I think Larry Holmes is a great boxer... and it was pretty crappy what happened to him against Tyson! I know he was past his prime and all... but what do you think would've happened if he had the right amount of time to train? Would the fight have lasted a lot longer... or would he have won... or would it still have been the exact same result?

It was obvious Larry didn't have enough time to train coming off of a 2 year retirement, but if he had say 2 months to train he would have won. He would obsorb the early punsihment rounds 1-5 as usual for Tyson, then Holmes would take over and would win a unanimous 12 round decision.

tyson would have beaten holmes everyday of the week in those days, even if larry had 4 months of training he may just have prolonged the ko by a round.

Are you serious? When Holmes started getting on his toes and jabing he was beating Tyson in that 4th round, then Tyson timed a right over Larry's jab and Larry went for the clinch and Tyson stepped back and gave Larry a little push back, Larry got up on 4, then after about 10 unanswered punches (power punches) Larry went boom again, then with 10 seconds left Larry was in the corner and went for an uppercut and the ropes got in the way and his arm hit the rope and Tyson hit Larry with 2 of his best left hooks and Larry went down and the ref didn't give him 1 second to get up, then the ref lept onto Larry and overreacted and called a doctor. Larry would have got up and made it the rest of the round, because he would have only had to survive 6 seconds. So if I were the ref I would have let Larry get back up.

You... could be right... but I'm telling you... after the 3rd Knockdown... it didn't look like Larry Holmes was getting back up... sorry!

Because the ref was on him .01 seconds after he hit the ground. And if Earnie Shavers couldn't KO him with that huge right, I can't imagine Tyson's left hook could.
