I have been training on my own for about a year, mostly on my own for fitness, checking in with a coach periodically to make sure my technique is right. I do three 3-minute rounds on the heavy bag and skip rope for 10 minutes for my usual workout.

I've gotten to the point where a normal speed rope was too easy, so I got a weighted 1-pound rope called a power rope. I can definetely feel the difference now, it's much harder to hold on for 10 minutes straight and I can't skip as fast. I was wondering if anyone else uses these, what the benefits or drawbacks to training with one are.

They are a great training tool. Basically there are a few different models. Some have weighted rope, some have weighted handles. They both essentially do the same thing in that they really give your shoulders/arms more resistance and help to build strength in those areas.

Also, Id recommend upping your rounds to 5 on the heavy bag. At my gym, we do 5 rounds on speedbag, heavybag, 3 on upercut, 20 mins jump rope, and then hit the cycle or sparr followed at the end by a 15 minute calesthenics workout of push ups/jumping jacks/crunches/situps, etc
