22-year-old Juan Carlos Salgado (18-0-1, 13 KOs) of Mexico will challenge WBA super featherweight champion Edwin Valero (22-0, 22 KOs) on December 15 in Cancun, Mexico. Salgado, who trains at the Pancho Rosales Gym in Mexico City and is managed by Ricardo Maldonado, was selected over "Lacandon" Cruz, "Coloradito" Solis and Guty Espadas Jr. to get the title shot. "For me it is a great opportunity. I have a lot of desire to win. He has a great record, but I can beat him and I am preparing the strategy to do it," said Salgado. The card will be promoted by Pepe Gomez and Teiken Boxing.
I have never heard of Salgado. Anyone?
