Joe Frazier was a hard puncher. His In-Fighting style, tenacity to win and incredibly left hook beat Muhammad Ali in 1971. Ali learnt from this... and used all of the skill that we already knew he had of such a great Out-Fighter and capitalised on it in a major way. A longer reach... handspeed... quickness... so on and so forth. It thus defied the whole "In-Fighters beat Out-Fighters" logic... but still... Frazier did take Muhammad Ali to the limit!!!

However... when Frazier ever went up against somebody who hit harder than he did... and in term... was a brawler... he went down... twice in fact to the same man!

I don't ever recall Frazier taking on anybody else other than George Foreman was who a BRAWLER that hit harder than Joe Frazier... he was the only Joe Frazier opponent I knew that hit harder than him.

So it comes to my mind that... wait a minute... what if Frazier took on either Earnie Shavers or Ron Lyle?

Believe it or not... I reckon Frazier may find himself in trouble... and it could be Frazier/Foreman all over again!

I know Earnie Shavers had that weak/suspect chin and a lack of stamina... but his hard-hitting style would overpower Frazier just like George Foreman's did. Joe Frazier In-Fighting would be perfect for Earnie Shavers.

Then you've got Ron Lyle... he has no known weak/suspect chin... and probably hit harder than Earnie Shavers. He has better stamina as well... and was half an inch and a few pounds of being just as Big as George Foreman.

So much so... those two NEARLY KILLED EACH OTHER in FIGHT OF THE YEAR 1976... A 5 Round Slugfest that'll go down as my all time favorite Heavyweight Bout!!!

I LOVE BRAWLERS... AND IF I WERE A BOXER... I'D BE ONE!

Anyways... I reckon Lyle would also have taken down Joe Frazier!!!

Do you agree with me?

If Joe Frazier took on either Earnie Shavers or Ron Lyle... would it be like Joe Frazier taking on George Foreman???:D

shavers beats frazier in a similar way that foreman did but frazier out slugs lyle and stops him in the later rounds.
shavers didn't dominate a fighter the way foreman did and it took more than 1 punch power to stop joe. frazier would have met both these guys with fire and would have stopped both late imo.

I reckon Lyle would have a better chance of beating Frazier than Shavers... Earnie had that weak/suspect chin and problems with stamina. Lyle might have had stamina problems... but her certainly had no weak chin... and he was the only man that could legitimately hurt and really take it to George Foreman when it came to power (in spite of losing)... that was my all-time favourite Heavyweight Boxing Match! :)
