I know that the guy is 7 feet tall, 330 lbs. and built like a wrestler... but he takes forever to beat certain opponents (it took him a while to beat a much smaller Monte Barrett) and sure... he looks scary... but I don't hear much talk about what his punching power is like... does he even have any punching power... or is he just big? How would his punching power rate alongside the likes of Louis, Marciano, Baer, Tyson, Foreman, Lyle, Shavers, Frazier... so on and so forth? Was Primo Carnera known for his punching power at all? Or was he not?

He doesnt have great power & he doesnt really sit down on his punches. He throws alot of arm punches wich I am sure with his weight behind them do hurt , but not much of a puncher.

He wears down his opponents with his size.

But can't he himself get worn down because of his size... and smaller... quicker... fitter opponents... should be the ones who wear him down? Yes... No... Maybe?

So far it hasnt happened, he has shown great stamina for his size.

The thing is he doesnt throw alot of huge punches so he doesnt wear himself out.

Valuev has great reach so anyone fighting him is almost forced to move around him and stay on his toes all the time. Otherwise, Valuev can corner you and then you are finished. Barrett started out good but he just couldn't keep up the pace for the whole fight no matter how great his stamina is. Then Valuev landed a few punches and that was that. I do believe Valuev can easily knock people down with his left jab. He used it to set up a right uppercut against Barrett, missed completely with the uppercut, but barrett still went down. The reason he doesn't look like a heavy punches is because he misses a lot. Even when he hits something, it generally isn't the head, but the shoulded or chest, but that is often enough to do the damage.

Good point Erik. As long as Valuev is not doing anything to wear himself out he's not going to get tired. He can pretty much just lurch over the ring without exerting much energy.

I saw him fight Barrett in Chicago and was very surprised at his Stamina. It's pretty obvious that they kept him off of TV for so long because he was a "project" and to his credit he's worked hard and they've done a great job at minimizing his liablities and emphasizing his one major strength, his size. No,he's not a great puncher, but there's no many who can stand up to carrying his great bulk around the Ring for a full 12 rounds.

I'm agreeing with this one completely. His size is his biggest advantage by far. He is not comparable to the great power punchers you listed Tyson but has significant power.
