Will to Win?

Is having this mindset what really sets ATGs apart from others? Of course they will still need a certain degree of skill, but is what's in their mind (the will to win), just as important? I'm of the sort that thinks will is most important of all. If one goes into a boxing ring, or anything else in life, thinking they'll lose, it is a self-fulfilling prophecy for them! They already thought they would lose before ever stepping into a ring, business decision, or whatever..

Real winners in life always refuse to lose. In boxing it is a matter of entering a ring believing the other guy can't beat you. Ali fought by this precept, he may have lost, but he never once thought he wasn't the greatest in the ring in any of his bouts. Marciano was of the same ilk of Ali using this argument, even though his style was vastly different.

The point I'm making is all of the ATGs never entered a ring thinking they would lose, and they nearly always came out with that something special that kept them from losing. And I feel this is true of Ali, Holmes, Marciano, Louis, Dempsey, Frazier etc. etc. in spades. These are the guys HW fans always keep comparing to each other, why? Because they are the best of all in boxing! And they are also the ones who took the skill they had and believed the most in it.

ALI, while I don't think he was the greatest, epitomized this thought process better than any person ever in boxing!

Marciano, Holmes, and Hagler all had an enormous will to win. Not many guys would get off the floor from the shots Holmes took from Snipes and Shavers.
lol i agree with hagler but bill you are so partial is not every funny, i could ask any question and you would reply, marciano and holmes. its hilarous.
No I wouldn't. I will name a few more. Holyfield. Cobb (although he wasn't good at it). Qawi. Graziano. Zale. Armstrong. Frazier.

Marciano and Holmes didn't have a will to win? How so?

Your reasoning should be pretty rich, tj

Oh, can I be a mod too???? :cheeky4:
I wasnt questioning marciano's and holmes will to win, I strictly making a case that billy hear always brings their name up in any category. I personally think their are fighters with a much bigger will to win than holmes and marciano. Guys that actually did lose but kept fighting. Guys who would lose every round adn then knock the guy out at the last second. Marciano did this a few times but against limited opposition. I dont ever remember holmes ever be dominated except by tyson but we all know holmes was past it, although he did fight on to give mccall all he wanted and imo he won that fight.

As for you. Dont critize my knowledge or my status.

Did I? How so, TJ? You can address me as Rocco when referring to me directly, thank you very much. You seems more than a little rude on your part...
I only refer to friends in a personal way, to me you are just a person. And I find you just as rude as I choose to be. This is a boxingforum. Im a moderator. You treat me with respect, or I can take it into my own hands. I appreciate you being here but not if your going to get personal with me. You think your better than me, more knowledgable? Your fooling yourself. Staff abuse is prohibeted. And a word of advice, dont act all hard online, it doesn't bother me the least bit.

Watch Larry's first fight with Weaver. Larry had the flu, was getting pounded on by Weaver (who was a massive puncher), and nailed him with a beuty of an uppercut. The bell saved him. Larry got him at the start of the next round.

Any obuse is untollerated. Although, Rocco, your a good guy and all, but you gotta stay a little calmer.
holmes showed me his heart when he got up from the shavers shot. I was never questioning their heart or will. I was basically making a funny stab at you billy stating you alwasy talk about holmes and marciano. which 95 percent of the time is true buddy.
90% is more like it....
haha ok ill take that.
